Meet our team

                                          

                             Karen Evans - Project Coordinator

Karen is a Registered Nurse with 19 years experience.  She is currently employed in the Emergency Department of Barwon Health.  She also works as a casual academic in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at Deakin University and volunteers extensively through Kardinia Chirsitan Church.  Karen was part of the first team that visited Uganda in 2009 and she has since become quite 'attached' to Uganda.  As Project Coordinator Karen hopes that other members of the 2011 team will witness and experience the difference that Jordan House makes in the local slum community of Kasubi.  

Karen says, "I think about Uganda every day!  Not only am I looking forward to going back and rekindling friendships with the staff and children, but I am very much looking forward to seeing our sponsor child, Ivan.  I know that our projects we will make a difference in the lives of the children at Jordan House and I hope we will be able to leave something tangible behind for the local community."    

                                                        

                                     Alexander Evans

Alex is a student, currently in Year 7 at Grovedale College.  Alex enjoys playing all sorts of sports and he has a keen interest in music and multi-media.  This will be the first time Alex has visited Uganda and is making this trip with his mum, Karen.  He is very excited to be going and to meet the children who live at Jordan House.

Alex says, "I'm looking forward to meeting our sponsor child, Ivan and to be involved in activities with all the children."

                                                        

                               Colin Brown - Education Leader

Colin is currently working as an Education Consultant.  He holds a Bachelor of Science (Education) and spent many years in the Administration Team (as Campus Principal, Assistant Principal and College Principal) at a Geelong Secondary School.  This will be Colin's second visit to Uganda, he and his wife Winsome were part of our 2009 team.  Colin is looking forward to meeting up with the staff and children from Operation Uganda once again.

Colin says, "I would like to spend quality time with the staff, from both the Primary and Secondary Schools attended by Jordan House children, and leave them much needed resources and professional development materials."

                                                            

                                      Winsome Brown

Winsome is now retired but in recent years worked as a Medical Receptionist.  She has sound administration skills.  Winsome who is married to Colin, was part of our first team that visited Uganda in 2009.  She is looking forward to re-connecting with the staff and children at Jordan House Children's Home.

Winsome says, "I would like to re-connect and share with those beautiful people again and to help with the projects in any way I can."

                                                         

                                Libby Ellis - Health Leader

Libby is a Registered Nurse with 25 years experience. Currently she is practising as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner Candidate in Geelong Hospital-Barwon Health. Libby has qualifications in Emergency Nursing, Critical Care and is a qualified Midwife. Libby also was part of the 2009 team that took part in many health checks and education sessions with the children within Jordan House and the local schools. Libby is looking forward to seeing how things are progressing and spending time with the Jordan House children.

 
Libby says " I cannot wait to spend time with the Jordan House children and workers and offer whatever skills they require and in any way I can."
 

 

                                                         

                                          Liane Foord

Liane is a Primary School Teacher here in Geelong.  She has formal qualifications in Education and enjoys computer work, administration work and photography.  Liane along with her husband Rex have visited Uganda on a previous occassion and they have a connection to Bushikori ministries at Mbale and Jordan House.  Liane is looking forward to gaining a better understanding of the work that Russell and Jenny Barton do through Operation Uganda and Jordan House.  She also very keen to spend time with the children and to do whatever she can.

Liane says, "I'm looking forward to being part of a missions team.  I've had a connection to Uganda through our church and we sponsor two children there."

 

                                                           

                                           Rex Foord

Rex is a Computer Professional with formal qualifications in Computing. He also enjoys 'all things tech', music and photography.  Rex and his wife Liane have been to Uganda before in association with Bushikori ministries at Mbale.  Rex hopes to develop his relationship with the people of Uganda and find out more about Operation Uganda.

Rex says, "I am going to Uganda because I want to assist the people we meet in helping themselves.  I also want to assist the other members of our team where I can and of course I want to see more of the African country."

 

                                                          

                                        Julie George

Julie is the Manager of a Local Community Centre here in Geelong.  She has a Diploma in Community Business Management.  This will be her first visit to Uganda and being a task oriented person she hopes to complete a project and also interact with the community that surrounds Jordan House Children's home.  Julie wants to learn more about the Ugandan people and ways to support them.

Julie says, " I have always wanted to volunteer in an overseas country and the needs in Uganda were very compelling, knowing members of this team and that we are being a direct support made this an easy decision."

                                                          

                                         Louise Mayall

Louise is a Community Nurse for Barwon Health.  She is Registered Nurse Division 1 and has extensive skills in Children's ministry.  This will be the first time Louise has visited Uganda and she is looking forward to experiencing a new culture of great diversity and to sharing God's grace to those she meets.

Louise says, "I am going to Uganda to give something of myself and to make a difference, all be it small, in the lives of the children at Jordan House and those in the wider community." 

 

                                                         

                                         Karen Hill

Karen works in a local Dental Surgery and is a qualified Dental Nurse.  This will be a return visit for Karen, she visited Uganda in 2009.  Karen hopes to follow up on work already done at Jordan House and to rekindle the relationships with the children she has met before.

Karen says, "Having been before, I know I need to go back and help in any way I can, where ever I can.  I am especially looking forward to seeing all the children agian."

 

                                                     

                                        Sarah Hill

Sarah is a student, netball coach and School Holiday program leader.  She has qualifications as a Personal Care Worker and Education Support Worker.  This will be a first time visit to Uganda for Sarah.  She hopes to learn more about the African culture and to see where she can help.

Sarah says, "I want to meet our family's sponsor child, Edwin.  I also want to be able to help at Jordan House in any way I can."
